Partnership Announcement

Loc.KA x Franco-German University

We are proud to announce our partnership with the Franco-German University! 🚂🤝🇫🇷🇩🇪

A huge thank you for your sponsoring. Your support is invaluable for our activities. 🙏

The Franco-German University is an international academic institution and a vital network connecting over 200 German and French higher education institutions. Its core mission is to promote cooperation in research and academics primarily by initiating and funding integrated bi-national degree programs, which famously award students a double degree in a variety of disciplines. 🎓

This partnership perfectly aligns with the spirit of Loc.KA. We are proud to have a diverse membership representing many different nationalities 🌍 In fact, several members of our association are currently participating in a double master’s program between France and Germany offered by the Franco-German University. In this post you can get more insights from our members Annika and Adrien.

We look forward to a fruitful collaboration! 🌱

Excursion to the Tunnel-Rastatt

Report by Constantin Reusch

On November 21st, our first official Loc.KA excursion took us deep into one of the region’s most fascinating infrastructure projects: the Rastatt tunnel. As sustainability and mobility enthusiasts, we naturally began our journey the best way possible — by travelling to the site together by train. The ride set the tone for the day: relaxed, social, and full of anticipation for what awaited us underground.

Before entering the tunnel area, we visited the on-site exhibition, which provided an excellent introduction to the project. Through models, interactive displays, and detailed information boards, we learned about the complex engineering behind the tunnel, its significance for European rail traffic, and the challenges encountered during construction. This provided a solid foundation for everything we would experience afterward.

One of the highlights was an insightful talk by Christoph Klenert (DB InfraGO), who shared valuable expertise on the project’s planning process, construction phases, and technological innovations. The talk was not only informative, but also highly engaging — giving us a greater appreciation for the scale and importance of this infrastructure.

Following the talk, we were guided through the tunnel construction site itself. Equipped with safety gear and led by experienced staff, we explored sections of the tunnel and gained a close-up look at the machinery, methods, and logistics involved. Walking through the construction site was an impressive and memorable experience for all of us, offering a rare opportunity to see such a major engineering project from the inside.

To round off the day, we returned to Karlsruhe and finished the evening with good food, drinks, and lively conversations in a local bar. It was the perfect ending to a day full of learning, excitement, and great company.

We truly had a fantastic time and would like to thank everyone who joined us. If you want to stay informed about our future excursions and events, make sure to follow us on our platforms. More adventures are already in the making — stay tuned!
